on the one hand i don’t see how trans* issues are not family-friendly? treating trans* topics like they’re taboo and unfit to discuss with or explain to kids contributes a lot to transphobia in the same way that treating homosexuality like it’s an “adult” topic contributes to homophobia

I can see how some people can consider trans* issues not family friendly: Mostly the whole talking about genitals bit. Parents hate talking to their kids about genitals and sex. I’m sure a large number of parents are also trans*/homophobic, which adds on to the whole not talking to their kids about it, but I can tell you as having a mom who is also a faghag, for her it was definitely the whole genital and sex issue.

everyone has genitals. avoiding the issue only makes children think there’s something taboo or “dirty” about their genitals & contributes to lovely feels like sexual repression

Or maybe… It’s the parent’s place to instill values, whatever they may be, in their children, not some random stranger on the internet.
